Sai Baba was born November 23, 1926, to a Hindu family in Puttaparthi in Karnataka. Young Sathya displayed a special nature even in childhood; he refused to participate in any activities harmful to animals, he would invite home beggars, and he astounded everyone with his talent for writing and acting.
On October 20,1940, young Sathya announced to his family , “I am no longer yours; I am Sai . I do not belong to you. My devotees are calling.” Thus , he left his home and began gathering followers . Sai Baba’s devotees today include past presidents , Prime Minsters, Supreme Court judges and a significant section of the country’s political and administrative leaderships.
